Kimberley Airport
Kimberley is in the Northern Cape province and very famous for it’s big hole. This hole was dug out when looking for diamonds. Three quarters of the visitors to this airport are business travellers. This airport is used for transporting cargo including diamonds to the rest of South Africa, as well as abroad.
If you are in South Africa between August and October, you will be lucky enough to see the amazing wildflowers of Namaqualand, a semi-desert in the Northern Cape. This province is mostly desert and lies south of the mighty Orange River. Only once a year there are more than 3 000 species of wildflowers growing on the border of Namibia, the rest of the year it is a harsh landscape with sandy plains.
This desert area in South Africa has the warmest summers but also the coldest winters with temperatures as low as -6°C. Richtersveld National Park has rugged landscapes and is very popular with 4x4 enthusiasts as well as nature lovers. You can even see rock paintings by the San people who used to be hunter-gatherers. The Kalahari is home to the most beautiful African skies and takes its name from the “thirsty land”. Adventure junkies can enjoy canoeing down the mighty Orange River.
The airlines that fly to Kimberley include South African Express Airways and South African Airways
